Movement and active engagement is highly important in first grade. Students at this age may have difficulties sitting still and focusing all of their energy on what is being shared. Flexible seating empowers students, encourages sharing, builds a sense of community, and prepares students for work spaces in the future. Mobility improves health and wellness, and promotes collaboration. The seating choices that I have chosen for my students and the ones that have been left for me by other teachers will allow my students to pick what works for them. This will help with posture, develop core strength, and encourage focused learning and collaboration.
