I believe that adding more titles to my guided read time and having multiple copies of books for "5th Grade Book Clubs" all about the topic of kindness and the importance of being kind to others, would have a strong impact on the future behaviors of my students. My 5th-grade team and I would share the multiple copy books titled, "About Average, Wolf Hollow, and Small Acts of Courage," to use for the Book Clubs. With these new books focusing on kindness, at their independent reading level, along with the teacher guided conversations that pair up with the class read aloud, our students will be more likely to be empathetic to others and put a greater value on kindness! We are living in times where much of the empathy, manners, and simple kindness of many students seem to be fading but not lost. Bullying is becoming a large problem, in many schools and the consequences of this problem can have lasting effects that can be too great to measure. Book Talks, I believe will have lasting positive effects for my students and their behavior!
