I am a first grade teacher in Hawaii. Most of my 23 students are either 5 or 6 years old. My students are young and curious, and enjoy coming to school. Many of my students do not have access to Internet or technology at home. The school enrollment is growing, but we don't have extra funds to purchase new technology to keep up with our growing enrollment. Due to budget cuts, our computer lab is out dated and often understaffed. Priority for using the lab is often given to older students. The students at our school have access to educational programs such as Accelerated Reader, IXL, Xtra math and Google Earth. When given the opportunities to use these programs my students become so excited and engaged in learning. Using technology is imperative to become a 21st century learner. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn while using technology.
