This year I will be teaching third grade and this is a crucial age to instill a love of reading for my students. They already enjoy reading, but fun and engaging books are key to keep them interested in reading and not let them start to see it as a chore. Books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Year of the Book, and the Hank Zipzer Series will keep them coming back for more. I need a diverse classroom library so my students have many subjects they are interested in to choose from, books with kids that look like them, and series that get them excited about reading the next book. These students are working so hard, they deserve the escape and enjoyment of reading a great book.
