As part of our STEAM curriculum, I am looking to get slides for my students to examine. This will also get them familiar with science tools. My students will be so excited to use the science lab to actually be scientists, looking at slides under microscopes. This will be a lesson that will introduce students to the use of science equipment. They will be shown the parts of a microscope, slides, how to load them, how to focus the microscope, and how to observe and document their observations.. They will come away with a knowledge of how to use a microscope, including its parts and their functions. They will understand how to load prepared slides and how to create slides using blank slides, covers, and eyedroppers. The goal will be to have students feel comfortable in the use of microscopes and see the scientific use for them. They will be amazed at what they see. Who knows? This may be the spark that inspires them to go into the field of science. Even at this young age, this may be all it takes! We have microscopes that are languishing because we have no slides for students to look at. I thank you very much for your interest in and support of this project. My students, the rest of the 4th graders this year and all of our future students into the future thank you too!
