I'm a library media specialist who teaches students in grades 4-6. My elementary school is located in a small town and serves roughly 800 students. Fourth- and fifth-grade students have library class on a fixed schedule. Sixth-grade students enrolled in my Media elective course see me every other school day for 70 minutes, giving us lots of time for discussion, exploration and hands-on projects. I teach information skills while integrating technology and core content standards. Through my instruction, I also hope to encourage students to become independent readers and lifelong learners.
