My Robotics students gain so many skills that will enable them to be successful members of the workforce of the future! As part of the VEX Robotics program it is necessary for them to build skills in planning and developing prototypes which meet specific criteria and constraints, including budgetary constraints. It also requires them to analyze and improve their designs through testing. They build communication and negotiation skills through collaboration with their team members as well as with with other teams at tournaments. Finally, they must be able to communicate with judges in both written form and in interviews. COVID-19 sanitation requirements have created a tremendous barrier to allowing my students to develop the integral skills required in Robotics. In order to build all of the skills listed in the above paragraph, ultimately teams must actually build a robot. Robotics, when done as intended, is truly a team sport that requires the convergence of the ideas and the talents of many into one final product. In order for this to happen in 2020, however, the sanitation of robotics parts, tools, personal protection equipment, and electronics must happen in a safe and efficient manner. The acquisition of an Ultra-Violet Sanitation cabinet will allow expensive robotics parts and other equipment to be safely and efficiently sanitized, keeping my students safe while still providing them the time and opportunity to pursue an exemplary Robotics program. Thank you for your consideration and willingness to give my students the necessary resources to develop the skills to meet their dreams!
