During this time of remote learning, students have limited access to books. Because of this, they are not being exposed to print literature on a regular basis. My colleagues and I do not want to lose this generation of readers! Mysteries are a wonderful way to inspire a love for reading and to motivate kids to learn the foundations of a good reader. The "Absent Author" is just the book to launch our mystery unit. Every one of my students deserves to have a physical book in their hands to effectively learn about plot, inference, theme, character, prediction, etc. Printed books not only provide comfort, escape, and in-depth learning for my students. Printed books lead to life-long readers, which studies show lead to successful, influential, and more hopeful and empathetic adults.
