Students will be excited to use our comfortable seating to move out of their desks and find a retreat where they can become absorbed in their learning. Rather than spreading out on hard tile floor, they can relax on their new cushions and escape into the world of literature.
Giving students comfort takes the cold, impersonal feeling out of learning. Students will feel welcome and at ease in their homey new classroom. The seats will allow for flexibility to move around the room in small groups or to find a private oasis away from distractions.
It is my hope to provide my students with inviting, comfortable spots for sustained reading. Because my students sit at tables of 4 to 5 students, the seating will also give them somewhere they can escape to on their own, giving them their own zone away from distractions. The cushions will get lots of use for differentiated small group instruction, peer conferencing, and behavior incentives, as well as for the previously stated independent reading time.
