If COVID-19 has taught us anything about education, it is how essential it is to bring learning to life and to connect it to a student. Students learn best when they can see the connection to real life. Manipulatives can do that for a student. Manipulatives are any hands on tool that can help a student learn. Manipulatives help students learn concepts in meaningful and new ways. Students can use counting bears to help create patterns and learn basic addition, subtraction, and even multiplication and division facts. Puzzles help students interact with the alphabet. Mirrors are for more than checking your reflection, they allow students to see how words and sounds are formed in their mouth. Magnetic wands and chips are a fun way to help students tap out the sounds in words and track where they are in a sentence. LEGO bricks allow for students to have a brain break, but can be used in learning as well. Students can use LEGO bricks to build shapes, explore fractions, and express creativity. To some, these may seem like random toys or tools, but to a child and a teacher they become the gateway to learning a new concept. The donation of these manipulatives will bring excitement to my students learning.
