I teach students who are 18-22 years old and have a variety of disabilities, including visual impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and mobility challenges. They are a wonderful group of young adults who I am lucky to have the privilege of working with every day. Our program focuses on preparing students for the workplace and for life after high school. Students participate in vocational internships in the community, go grocery shopping, cook snacks and meals for themselves, and work on household chores, like cleaning and doing laundry. We recently opened a student-run coffee shop in our building that serves staff every morning. My students are running all areas of the shop with a small amount of supervision. It is amazing! In spite of the challenges they face in school and in life, these students come to school every day and work hard, support one another and do their best every day!
