Our school population includes many non English speaking students. Most of our children receive English Language Learner Services on a daily basis with the exception of Kindergarten students. Our school has many students receiving free or reduced breakfast and lunch. The Kindergarten students are constantly learning new skills from printing their names, printing the letters of the alphabet, to writing sight words and finally complete sentences. Let's not forget the mathematical skills such as identifying shapes and numbers, as well as drawing and writing these things correctly. When these skills are mastered by the students, they can't wait to share. As the teacher, you may find 10 children hovering around you waiting to show you the new word they wrote or the addition equation they formulated. Learning is much more beneficial when actively participated in. As their Kindergarten teachers we need to give them as many hands on experiences as possible to practice these new skills.
