The Chromebooks I am requesting would help serve a triple need in my classroom. First of all, many of my students love to read using online programs such as newsELA and EPIC. I like to provide a variety of options/reading materials during our reading time to include the many and varied interests of my students. Some of these online options garner a larger variety than my classroom library does. Many of my students prefer short text, particularly with nonfiction, and these can easily be found online.
I also like to use keyboards for some of my writers who struggle with writing on paper with a pencil. This might include my students with fine motor issues or students who seem to be able to generate their ideas better using technology. Some of these students struggle with spelling, and the computer helps them get their ideas on paper without focusing on spelling problems. Finally, the vast array of research options online allows us to dig deeper and further when the students have access to technology. We research frequently and across our content areas.
With these new Chromebooks, I will be able to meet more of the needs and learning styles of my students. Our large class size of 29 inhibits timely rotation of students through technology as is currently in our classroom. These Chromebooks would allow me to engage more students in technology rotations to meet their many needs.
