The largest unit we cover in 7th grade science is understanding the structures and functions of the human body. We spend several weeks learning the various organs of each of the systems we have inside our bodies and understanding the specialized jobs they perform every second of every day to keep us alive. All without our conscious thought! We use diagrams and videos when discussing the tissues and organs, but this model will help students truly see that they have these fascinating structures inside of their own bodies. Some of our activities include students building working models of some structures (like a set of human lungs out of straws and balloons!) which helps them understand their function but end up looking nothing like the real thing. This life-size visual model will really help them understand how these parts are all nestled inside of us, working closely and keeping us healthy!
