Students need hands-on activities that will keep their minds and imaginations growing. When they are able to build and create in a fun environment, they learn how things work. Most of my students don't have access to STEM related toys for financial reasons. With a MakerSpace center, they will be inspired to study science and engineering. As one engineer told me, "It all started with Legos." They love to manipulate the Legos and other MakerSpace activities that we have been able to acquire. Adding more STEM related activities would give students even more inspiration. Osmo Genius will encourage visual thinking, problem solving, and creative drawing skills. Origami paper helps students learn to follow step-by-step instructions. The green screen will allow students to showcase their learning when they film a book review or results of a science experiment. Magna-tiles help build spatial awareness. Your funding of this project would help give our students experiences they would not otherwise have.
