My students need classroom tables in order to encourage cooperative learning and collaboration with their peers. We currently have individual desks that are too large for first graders and do not foster collaborative learning. By contributing to these classroom tables, my students will be able to work in one of three different color coded groups. The shape of these tables allow for more students seating, while taking up less classroom space. This is important because young learners need space for movement in the classroom. Because these tables will encourage more collaboration with peers, I believe my students will achieve a higher level of academic success and will develop into a stronger cooperative classroom community.
