My students are the kindest souls on this planet. Each of them are unique in their own way and they face challenges in their day to day lives that most of us don't. Their disabilities make it difficult for them to find places to calm down and manage their emotions without hurting themselves. My students come from diverse backgrounds. They face low income families and emotional obstacles at home. Most of them have difficulty expression their emotions, get easily overwhelmed, and have rushes of sadness throughout the day. They face challenging days at home and I want this classroom to be their safe space. I'm looking for special pieces of comforting furniture such as soft bean bag chairs, plush mini couches, rugs, and things to make a comfortable corner for my students with special needs. When they walk into my classroom I want them to know that they have room to calm down and feel safe enough to learn. Mrs. D
