My classroom at Troy High School is full of high schoolers (majority are juniors and seniors), who come from small-town, rural Kansas (located about 1 hour away from Kansas City). About 60% are on the college track, while the remaning percent have selected a technical or agricultural career path. My students are from a predominantly white, middle-class, agricultural-based community, so most have not had notable exposure to the various types of diversity (race, ethnicity, language, dece gender identity and expression, socio-economic status, nationality, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, ability, etc). However, the majority come from supportive families that maintain wholesome, midwestern values of family, hard work, respect, faith, and community.
