My class is using alternative seating which is a different way to arrange a classroom where scholars can choose from different seating arrangements. Scholars learn best when they are the most comfortable. Our school day starts at 7:15 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. Scholars are able to change their type of seating throughout the day according to what is most comfortable and what will promote learning best. On days when they are energetic and need to move, we have seats that allow movement without disturbing other scholars. When scholars need a quiet place, we have seating stations that promote quiet reading and relaxation. Flexible seating gives scholars the opportunity to find where they learn the best. Glow stools allow students movement in all directions while seated. Other scholars may choose low tables with yoga seats, while others might prefer to stand at enjoy reading at a high table. Other students like to read on a comfortable couch.
