Our school is a rural PreK-8th grade school in the heart of Cajun Country near Rayne, La. The heritage locally is mostly French. Family is the most important value here, so many of the students have limited financial means. Most of our students have very limited access to technology to enhance their literacy, and they depend on mass media and school experiences to get information. Teachers are tasked with helping our students understand the value of a good education, because their parents mostly work blue-collar and service type jobs. Although the obstacles are many, teachers try very hard to reach all students, regardless of background.
