My students need the outdoor benches to finish our respite at recess spot. Most of our students live in the nearby projects and do not get to spend much time outdoors. The playground at our school is not a playground at all. It is simply a black-topped area with out any play equipment or seating. My 6th graders would like to be able to sit with friends and talk, share books, and just relax in the shade of our two little trees. Our younger students will be taught how to use the benches as "Buddy Benches" to spread friendship. With my students we created a "Green Team" to prepare a small garden area and we have volunteers building us an outdoor book box to provide our resting students with good reads. We also will be registering our nook with Little Free Libraries as outreach to the community. We are working with community members to prepare the garden and one of our parents will be installing the library on a post. All we need now is two benches.
