I work in a low-income school. My students struggle with vocabulary and reading. The only way to build their confidence is reading practice. However, they are not motivated to read. I truly believe tablets are a great way to motivate them. We do a lot of research projects, so we need necessary technology to do so. One way I plan to employ the iPad is using the Kindle app to download books for students to read. Studies have shown students who read just twenty minutes per day have higher reading levels and higher critical thinking skills. The student of the week will get to spend the last twenty minutes of class reading a book on the app. I also want to use it as an incentive for struggling students. If a student does well with a struggling standard, they may have fifteen minutes of free time on the Kindle app to read a book.
