My students need seating options that provide them with the ability to move their body while learning. Sitting at a desk in a classroom for 8 hours a day does not sound engaging to anyone, let alone a wiggly 8 year old. By allowing my students the choice to sit in stools that rock or chairs that bounce, they will better engage in learning. It may come as a surprise to find that there are greater benefits to flexible seating than student choice. By using flexible seating, my students will benefit in many ways including burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture. Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. Why not help my cause to create happier, healthier, and more engaged students?!
