My students are bright, hard-working 1st graders who have an insatiable hunger to learn and explore. They come from families who work hard to provide for them, often juggling multiple jobs, so they can have opportunities that their parents may not have had. Many students do not have an adult at home who can assist them with their homework because of their work schedules, a lack of education, or because they do not speak English. As a result, I know my students need to work twice as hard as their neighboring peers in order to get the most out of their school day. Technology is not something all my students have regular access to. Having computers in our classroom gives them the opportunity to learn basic life skills that they otherwise wouldn't have easy access to.
