I teach third grade at a Title 1 school in a small, rural community. About 90% of our school is on free or reduced lunch. Our low socioeconomic community provided limited experiences. Even though they face many difficulties in their lives, my students come to school eager to learn. Teachers at my school are given $100 to spend on supplies like copy paper, pencils, etc. so there is no extra money for fun, engaging manipulatives that can enhance the curriculum and get children excited about learning.
