Many of my amazing students enter school not speaking English. They have had to struggle, yet they have overcome the day to day language requirements. This leaves only the enlightenment of the written language for them to develop the love of reading. These children have very little resources at school, and at home since they are from a low income area and face many struggles just with day to day living. Many of these children have very little food and receive free meals at school, sometimes, the largest meal of their day. Parents are unable to help them since, they themselves, do not speak English or do not have an education.
