My students are walking into a brand new building with very little books to support their "40 Book Challenge" that they have accepted. I have chosen popular novels such as "Holes", "I Survived" and "Harry Potter" to get them excited as well as non-fiction titles like the "You Wouldn't Want to Be" books to integrate with our Social Studies lessons. To help with the challenge I would like to create literature circles of 2-6 students where each student reads the same novel so that they can partake in weekly discussions with each other. The "40 Book Challenge" will replace the traditional reading logs and will provide various opportunities to read text outside of their normal genres that they wouldn't have likely encountered before.
