I am new to this school/area/state this year, but from what I have learned, poverty is very high here. More than ninety percent of our school population lives below the poverty line. I have yet to see what my classroom/students will be like, but I want to give them every opportunity to succeed. It's my hope that I can instill in them a love of reading and learning that will help them pull themselves out of poverty and be able to live a better life. With changing schools (states) and grade levels, I have not been able to establish the classroom library that these wonderful children deserve. Reading is such an important skill students need to succeed, and I want to be able to ignite a burning desire to never stop learning in my students by giving them as many opportunities as possible.
