Please help me show my students how to "make sense out of cents." I teach second grade in a rural area of East Tennessee at a Title 1 school. Many of my students come from single parent households with very limited income. The majority of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch. Therefore, most of my students come from families that cannot afford to give their children an allowance. As a result, money is not something they are familiar with. Many of them have very little knowledge of spending money or even recognizing coins. Even the ones that can recognize the coins do not know the value of them or how to count them. My students need to be able to experience what it's like to earn money, spend it, save it, and make change. The real life scenarios provided by the requested technology will enable them to make wise choices when dealing with their finances both now and in the future. My students deserve this opportunity to take charge of their financial fate.
