Most kindergartners inherently love art. Art gets them motiviated for learning. However, due to the high demands of learning to read and write, many times art is left on the cutting room floor. This year, I would like to offer my students a more balanced curriculum by including more art projects and free explore art experiences. Our current paint easels are not in the best shape. They are permanently outdoors and the elements have worn them down. They are made of untreated wood so there is a risk for the kindergarteners to get splinters. I would like to provide an art center that can also be used indoors for our (occasional) days of rain in California. Also, having the easels indoors makes it possible for the kindergartners to paint during their free choice time. We tend to focus on getting our kindergarteners ready for first grade, but we also need to slow down and enjoy the experience for what it is: KINDERGARTEN!
