My students are motivated, respectful kids with a drive to learn, but I have seen them lose their homes, and endure the loss of income because one or both parents have loss their jobs (our city was selected as the number one worst place to live due to having the highest unemployment rate). Many will also be the first in their families to attend college; however, statistically only about 30% will actually complete a college degree. Living in a poverty-stricken, rural area does not provide the proper resources to prepare students for college. I want to do everything in my power to decrease the failure rate and help my students to be college ready.

About my class
