My students are wonderful people. I want, more than anything, to set them up for success both now and in their futures. As a language arts teacher, I am acutely aware that building a habit of reading will pay dividends throughout their lifetimes. Throughout my years as a teacher, I've made it my mission to make reading a habit for my students. I have worked very hard to curate my own classroom library from which students may choose books to read. However, as is the case with most classroom libraries, the list of books to add is long and funds are tight. The books I've chosen here represent two different types of reading: in-class and choice reading. The in-class novels The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 and The Giver are books that I read with students in class. Both books become favorites for students and are particularly fun for my reluctant readers. The choice novels are books that are missing from my own library but would be loved by students. As I've made selections, I've tried to complete sets that students like to read or make available books that I know would benefit readers of different interests and skill levels. Any help, however, would be greatly appreciated by my students and me.
