I would like to help our students be successful in their own way by providing visual models for organizing. With the addition of our color coded and durable storage bins, students will be able to organize their toys and tools by color. When you walk into our classroom you will see each of our cabinets will have a specific color bin in each area. Most of my students have a developmental delay and one of their goals is to identify colors. Each day when they play, they can work on this skill. When a child asks where the toy cars are, they will be told to find the yellow bins. He will scan the room and locate the area with the yellow bins. As educators we realize we don’t just teach academic skills but also real life skills. Organization is an area where many kids struggle and it’s important to show them different ways to organize the tools in their environment. Besides using color coding strategies, picture labels are also helpful. Each day we practice counting objects and we use different tools for this. By using the clear sticker labels, we will take a picture of each object and place it on the front of the clear bins. This will allow each child to pick their objects independently as well as return it to the appropriate bin by using their picture clues. Finally the supply caddy will help students problem solve independently. When they want to draw a picture, they will locate the supply caddy and get markers or crayons. Being able to solve small problems helps students build confidence and gain independents. In addition to the difference these supplies will make to our class this year, these supplies will help many students over the next several years!
