Providing alternative seating options in our classroom will give my students the liberty to choose their optimal learning environment. Research has shown that students who have more freedom of choice are more engaged and invested in their own learning. My goal is to give my students more ownership over their learning and provide a more equitable experience in the classroom. I want our classroom to be a learning community not an academic dictatorship. If students are more relaxed in their environment they will thrive. Each student will be allowed to select the seating and the location that is best for them that will allow them to do their best work. Students can select from a variety of seating options to fit their needs. For my wiggly kiddos who need to move, they can choose from balance disks, yoga balls, or wobble chairs. My students who have trouble focusing can grab a clipboard and find a quiet secluded space. Each of these items will give my students the differentiation they need to succeed in the classroom and create a more relaxed and comfortable environment for them.
