My students range from Entering to Commanding ELLs in a high poverty New York City school. They speak a variety of languages. Although my students often feel frustrated with their inability to communicate their understanding, they are EXTREMELY motivated to learn and succeed. With this language barrier, math games and manipulative will provide my students with the opportunity to play with the knowledge they gain. In addition, knowing and understanding math vocabulary is crucial. Math read aloud books would allow me to introduce new words in a fun and exciting way.
