This school year, I am hoping to offer flexible seating to my sweet, wiggly third graders. Third grade is a very important academic year which requires students to learn a lot of new information; therefore, I need their full attention for a large chunk of the school day. My classroom currently has the standard hard, cold, uncomfortable chairs for my twenty 8 and 9 year olds to use for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Last year, I purchased 5 stools for my computer center as well as my kidney table out of my own pocket to offer an alternative seating option to my students while they were actively using those areas. My students would greatly benefit from a few wobble chairs in order to let out some of their energy and wiggles. Research shows that there is a strong link between body movement and learning. We would LOVE to have some wobble chairs to allow my students the ability to move during instruction!
