  • Young Adults Getting Fit!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Thank you for your generous donations! We are ecstatic to receive these items. Being that we no longer have physical education because the students are 18-22 years of age, creating lifelong fitness goals are important to our program. Each student has made two fitness goals to help them stay focused while at the gym. We work out 3 days a week for 1-1.25 hours per day. The students have fully engulfed our fitness routine and look forward to working out each day.

We are grateful for our new yoga mats and resistance bands. Our classes are split into 3 big groups each working different muscle groups. Every day we work on abs and other dynamic floor exercises. We have been using the mats at the gym. These mats are quite disgusting. We are so excited to have our own to take care of. The new mats are thick and we wipe them down with sanitary wipes after each visit. The resistance bands really helps all students but mainly for our students who do not have the dexterity to hold free weights or use a machine. We have incorporated a full body workout with the bands.

Thank you again for your support. We look forward to continuing to support our students in their health endeavors!

  • Independent Living for Exceptional Peeps

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

Thank you for your very generous donation to our adult transition program. In our package we receive ink for our printers, vinyl for our program t-shirts, and water bottles for our students who do not have a reusable water bottle. Technology is embedded in our program every day. The students have to look up possible job opportunities and fill out resumes for jobs that they are interested in . The ink helps to allow our students to print what they need for these jobs in the classroom.

The students love that they can create their own work shirts for their job sites. The vinyl is used to iron on their name and a small symbol which symbolizes them. The students used the Cricut design program to create their own shirts. It was fun to see them so excited about this process.

Thank you again for your donation to our class. These tools will help support us in the future as the students learn how to be lifelong learners.”

  • Healthy Habits for Special Education Adult Students

    Funded Dec 12, 2017

With the start of the new year, we look forward to teaching our students healthy habits in which they can transfer into everyday living. When my students first heard that their healthy living project was funded they thought it was like Christmas all over again. Each student opened up their fitness tracker and immediately began to charge them. They were bragging about how many steps they wanted to take daily as well, and look forward to challenging their peers daily.

We also want to incorporate drinking water in the classroom. Many students take a variety of medication daily. Many of the medication taken require that the individual drink at least 24 ounces a water daily. In the class we would like to monitor their daily intake and have them record the number of cups the students drink during the class day.

Thank you again for your support and we look forward to incorporating healthy living in our day to day classroom activities.”

  • Custom Work Shirt Creations

    Funded Dec 12, 2017

Thank you for your support! We look forward to using the Cricut for many reasons. First, we are going to create new work shirts for our students to use while at their job sites. Every year we spend over $300 on the same boring work shirt. Now the students can choose their own fonts, style and designs and wear their shirts proudly in the community as they learn the vocational skills they need to work independently in the future.

Every year we put on a huge special education dance. Almost 300 individuals attend this dance. The cricut machine will be used to create decorations for the dance as well as supply our tables with art activities like Valentines. The Cricut machine will be used for years to come and we are entirely grateful for your support!”

  • Uniforms For Adult Transition Special Education Class

    Funded Dec 14, 2016

Thank you for your generous donation to our class. This year we have many students who are turning 22 and aging out of the school system. WE are beyond proud of the success they have made in becoming active members of the Livermore Community. With this said, we would like to thank each and everyone for the donations that you all have provided to ensure that my students have the same skills set as those without disabilities as they head into the real world.

When the students first saw the numerous boxes in the classroom, they felt like it was Christmas all over again. We received all of the materials the day we got back from our winter holiday break. We have already began to use the laptop computer. Most of our curriculum is computer based. They have used the computer to look up jobs, recipes, and to research adult day programs once they leave the school system. Every Wednesday the students pick a recipe to cook for their classmates. They have based their ideas off of the rice cooker, stand mixer and air fryer that they received. The students feel comfortable using these items in the classroom and are eager to show their parents the skills they have learned while in class. The sweaters are getting print design on them based off of what they have designed. They are excited to wear them on and off campus and feel included in the school community.

Thank you again for your donations!”

  • Special Education- Living Skills Class

    Funded Nov 6, 2015

Thank you for your donation to our class!

We are excited about the donations and look forward to utilizing the assisted technology in the classroom.

Unfortunately, special education is not given textbooks to assist the teachers. My curriculum is ALL teacher-created and can rarely be duplicated year-after-year. Our class consist of two working who do not have the ability to print. Being that we often use Google docs, develop numerous research skills (bus schedules, job opportunities, recipes...) our students are unable to work in a small group environment using these technologies. Our hope is to utilize the Kindle Fires in group settings, while being able to print using the wireless printer we recently purchased.

The donations to this project will give ALL students the ability to utilize the technology they need to learn how to use for the future, while also providing textbook material to their desktops.

We also plan on uploading picture communication boards to our kindles in order to bring our noon-verbal students out into the community and teach them how to communicate in restaurants, stores and leisure recreation activities.”

  • Assisted Technology For Visual And Hearing Impared Students

    Funded May 5, 2013

Thank you for your generous donations of the Google Chromebooks. As soon as the boxes came in the mail it was like Christmas for them. They were instantly playfully fighting over who could use them first. We are coming to a time where technology is slowly taking over the pen and pencil days. For my students with fine motors needs it allows them to keep up with the class and type at a speed faster then they can with a pencil.

Everyday when they get to school they walk up to the chromebooks and begin researching. Some look up dream homes for their future living arrangements. Many are practicing building their resume writing and applications skills so that they can obtain a job in the near future. All in all it is a valuable tool they use to develop an realistic understanding of life and how life changed once they become young adults.

This project has allowed me to work with the students with developing an understanding of how important technology is. The students are able to look up their own simple cooking recipes which in turn makes it even more gratifying for them to cook a recipes that they found on their own. Assessments that are taken online can be done in a more efficient environment with multiple resources. Thank you for the support and giving my students a chance to use the four Google Chromebooks as a tool that will be used in their adult years as well as a resource for their individual needs.”

  • Special Education Adults Need Classroom Printer

    Funded Dec 6, 2013

Thank you for your donation of printers and ink to our class. My students were so excited to receive the message that their resources have come in. The moment that they called me I grabbed the students and we ran to the office. The students opened the boxes and attempted to set them up themselves. The students were eager to try out the copy machines. It was nice to see them open up presents as if it were Christmas.

We are grateful to have wireless printer that we can call our own. Prior to your donation we were sharing a printer with three other classes. The printer was unreliable and often did not work. As a transition education teacher curriculum does not come to me as it does to general education teachers. I have to create my own curriculum to promote self- awareness, work experience and independence. Having our own printer has allowed us to have teacher-made stories in color which are more beneficially and relevant to the students in the class.

These resources will boost my ability to teach because it gives the students a chance to create resumes and use them in real job interviews. When the students exit my class they will jump into the real world. The printers have allowed them to look up public transportation routes and obtain a hard copy to guide them through town. They have the ability to look up recreation activities with their friends and research current events to report to the classroom. The students with limited mobility can now use laptops or our classroom iPad for their classwork and print them out immediately through wireless capabilities. The opportunities you have provided to my classroom are endless and I thank you for your generous contribution!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chrissy Booe

My students have moderate to severe special education abilities. The abilities of my students range from cerebral palsy, blind, low-cognitive development, epilepsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, deaf and hard-of-hearing. Special education students are allowed to attend high school until the age of 22. Once they turn 22 they are sent on their own either in a group home, assisted living, or fully independent. Each student comes from a unique background some in which are better than others. The class dynamics is a sight to see. The students genuinely enjoy learning about an adult life and what they may encounter. They have learned how to cook simple breakfast and lunches with verbal and physical prompts from classroom aides and myself. With assistance they go out in the community and volunteer at various work sites in the community and are slowly creating a school spirit student store to provide ways in which they would need to learn how to communicate with the general public.
