Because my students are very energetic and work best when they are comfortable, I began to research flexible classrooms. Research suggests that flexible classrooms allows students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. It helps them to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and engage in critical thinking. Classrooms that have implemented flexible classrooms have noticed happier students, decreased behavior problems, and improved grades. With flexible seating which includes, exercise balls and stability discs, my students will be able to move while learning. Instead of having them sit in a hard chair for long periods of time, I want them not only to be able to choose what environment works best for their learning, but also be able to move around in either an exercise ball seat or a stability disc, while still being engaged in the learning process.
