The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for success in reading is reading aloud to children. My middle school students want to hear stories that are beyond their reach as they get older. By using audio books from Playaway, the students will be able to listen and comprehend 2 grade levels above their independent reading level. Combining print and audio increases recall by 40% over print alone. Having these popular titles their peers are reading will increase their motivation to read more stories. All the titles I have selected will give my readers the opportunity to contribute in conversations with their peers about these trending stories.
