Students will use a novel to practice and master grade level and above grade level reading skills and expose them to a genre that many might not choose on their own. Having a class set of the novel, The Dragon of Lonely Island, for students to use and take home will allow students more flexibility in the completion of their novel study. They will not have to share a novel with other students, giving them more freedom to read and explore. Investing in my advanced/GT students will allow them to show their advanced skills and creativity in their own way. Many times, these students are overlooked, not having their specific learning needs met. By participating in a novel study just for them, I am fostering their gifts in reading as well as addressing their need for above level instruction.
