Each morning I arrive at school excited and anxious to see my little great artists. My little Picassos come from a high poverty area where common themes in the community included parents who have not completed their education, single parent homes, siblings taking care of younger siblings, hungry nights, and little access to opportunity and inspirational surroundings. The school day may be the only time my students are exposed to anything that opens their eyes to the unique beauties of the world, cultures, and art. Although my students may have many disadvantages, seeing the students' faces when they make new discoveries and tell their story through art never gets old and reminds constantly of why I am here.
