My students love to play instruments and explore different creative outlets. Although my district is very supportive of the arts, our budget does not leave much in order to purchase new supplies. Most of the instruments we have are quite old and well "loved" (worn). A class set of ukuleles would give my students an exciting opportunity to try a new instrument. Ukuleles will also help them learn about new genres of music, note reading, song writing, and many other musical aspects. Most importantly, ukuleles are FUN! Playing ukuleles in a group setting can be a joyful experience that can provide happy memories for my students. My hope is that providing positive musical experiences will help students gain confidence and help them to become life-long appreciators of music.
