My class consists of 22 eager and energetic kindergarteners. They are excited about reading and love to connect their prior knowledge to the books we read during shared reading activities. Most of the families at our school are low income and most of the students receive free/reduced lunch. Fortunately, I have a good selection of big books. However, I do not have a big book stand that can be moved easily through the classroom with storage and is kid friendly. A big book stand would allow my students to easily manipulate the books during shared reading, literacy stations, and free center time. I would love to provide my students with a hands-on experience using big books that enriches oral language, supports reading strategies, and provides risk free participation in subsequent readings and discussions.
