STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) education and experiences are lacking within most school systems. Getting students, specifically women and minority students, interested in these fields early on will lead to more of them pursuing careers in these fields. Only 16% of American high school seniors are proficient in math. Even among those who do go on to pursue a college major in the STEM fields, only about half choose to work in a related career. I am requesting twelve subscriptions to TIME For Kids to build interest in STEM as well as increasing opportunities for my students to read a variety of nonfiction texts. This year I plan to have "STEM Fridays" and by donating to my project you will help to ensure that my students will have these opportunities. I am asking a variety of resources for my STEM Fridays. Specifically I am asking for activities that will make the Science connection including a My Senses kit and Weather Kit to help with everyday science experiences. Little kids love bugs and animals, the requested Animal Habitat projects, Worm Habitat, Bug House, and Bug Viewer will help students get to know more about the creatures they love. The Technology connection include building robots. I am asking for solar kits, snap circuit kits, and remote controlled robots. Students will enjoy building these robots and seeing the various ways they can work. The Crystal Wonders Kit and Crystal Radio will help students connect how science and technology work together. The Computer Coding Intro book will be the beginning of understanding how their electronic games work. Engineering activities include the Building Bridges, Catapult, and Marble Mazes. Students will love creating these various structures and learning why things work. Finally, the Math and Problem Solving materials include more hands-on games to learn about money. The Brick By Brick and Clue Master will help to develop their problem solving skills.
