I have been teaching middle school for 5 years now. Every year, I have been able to add about 10 books to my classroom library, which has been a good start given my current salary and the need for other materials that have taken precedence for me to purchase for my classroom over buying books. I recently got a new bookshelf for my classroom though, and after unloading the books I have, I noticed two problems: I don't have much of a selection, and the selection I do have does not represent the diversity I see in my classroom. Every student deserves to see themselves and the people they aspire to be like in the books they read. And they deserve to see themselves in more than one book, too! With this library list that I have submitted, students will now have a wide variety of books they can elect to borrow from my classroom. And these are books that are inclusive on many levels, don't rely on stereotypes, and are just interesting!
