Our school community was deeply affected by Hurricane Sandy. Many of our students are still recovering from the financial and emotional effects of the storm. School has become more of a safe haven than ever before and our sense of solidarity and community is stronger than ever. My co-teacher and I teach 32 of some of the most diverse eighth graders in New York City. Diverse not only by ethnicity and culture, but diverse learners as well. Our humanities class is inclusive of all learners, located in a progressive middle school where we strive to provide an excellent education and a nurturing environment. Supporting our school means supporting an entire community in recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
