My students are fascinated by space. Students love the few stuffed planet buddies that we have in the classroom currently. They enjoy reading to them and holding them throughout lessons. Giving them something to hold and fidget with has helped them to hold their attention and participate actively in lessons. Allowing them to explore something they are interested in makes learning fun and engaging. Through ELAR lessons, we will explore the author's purpose and nonfiction text structures. They will listen actively, ask relevant questions to clarify information, and answer questions using multi‐word responses. They will share information and ideas about astronomy, work collaboratively with others to use what they have learned to explore the night sky through a telescope. They will record information that they learn, develop drafts, revise, edit and publish their learning to go along with and explain the visual models of the solar system that they create. Further, they will develop social communication such as introducing themselves and others when presenting research to their families and community members.
