I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many face a home life without both parents. Because we live in such a rural area, in some cases, the parent/parents are unable to find full time employment. My students are bright and eager to learn. They love to read and explore the world around them, but many will not be able to enjoy the "typical" life experiences of children their age because of their socioeconomic status. I do the best that I can to provide them with engaging learning activities, but with declining budgets that is becoming more difficult to do. These children are our future and a good education and knowledge of our environment and our world is key to breaking the poverty cycle.
