Students will have access to a fully-stocked library with books that capture their interest and raise their enthusiasm for reading. Our English department is trying to grow our students' interest and capacity for reading by conducting SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) on a regular basis. We have been utilizing student-driven initiative and data-collection techniques in order to gauge and assess where our students are at with their literacy levels, and we have been adapting to these findings so that we can better reach the children. We all know that in this information age, books have been squeezed to the margins in the media market, but we believe strongly (through years of experience in education) that reading books is the cornerstone for deeper learning. We want to add books to our library, where we can build a community through literacy engagement.
