My students are from a city that is lauded for its gang violence, drugs, and abject poverty. My students are a mix of Latinos and African Americans, who, often times, don't have any experiences beyond the borders of their city. In spite of the crime and the are resilient and they want to learn. They want to have the same access to the information that the rest of their peers in the state have.
